Confusion in use of 'string' to mean string OR hexBinary

Section: 9.4.2 - When we say 'string' we mean string or hexbinary - seems some of the material isn't relevant to hexBinary, or at least that this way of explaining is confusing.
I don't think we refer to hexBinary as a kind of string anywhere else, and as all other uses of string are discussing textual stuff, this seems like an odd usage.
Suggest we just edit the section to say "xs:string or xs:hexBinary" rather than trying to get the reader to suspend their assumptions about what 'string' means.
